0 – The Fool Card
The Fool, sometimes known as the “Goddamn Fool” or “That Fool Of A Dog”, traditionally means new beginnings, curiosity, innocence and taking a leap of faith. For dogs, that means “SQUIRREL!” Whaddya mean WAIT? What cliff?”
Some might refer to this character as “a bit of a thick”, but this is the pure dog brain in action – nose first, think later. On the edge of something new and exciting, eyes wide, tail wagging, rolling in something smelly, there’s no need to worry NOW about the bath required later. It’s all part of a grand adventure.
When This Card Appears: Now’s a good time to channel your inner golden retriever energy. Stop overthinking and just jump into the water/mud/hole. The universe is throwing you a ball – go fetch it for Dogs sake, even if you’re not sure where it’s going to land.
Reversed Meaning: You’ve been sitting in the “stay” position for too long. Someone needs to remind you that life isn’t just about being a “good dog” – sometimes you need to dig a massive hole in the garden of possibilities, no need to ask permission.

Key Dog Wisdom:
- Follow your nose, even if it leads you somewhere ridiculous, and ESPECIALLY if it involves mud.
- Sometimes the best adventures happen when you’re not paying attention to the “DANGER: CLIFF AHEAD” signs
- Trust that your human (the universe) will catch you if you fall
- Each day is a new day to make spectacularly poor decisions with complete confidence
Note: I am (clearly) not an expert on Tarot, just learning about the cards from a dog’s-eye view, while using it as an excuse to draw more dogs. You can buy a print of this from the Drawing The Dog Shop.
